First master study

So this is my first attempt at recreating a digital piece.  It took an insane amount of time. So I think I need to find a faster technique. I sketched the picture and then scanned it in.  I didn't trace it because I couldn't find a large picture of the picture I wanted.  That made it pretty difficult as well.  It's hard to match up a small amount of pixels with a large amount.  Anyway, I like how it turned out especially since I don't know what I'm doing.

  3. Hey Candice,
Your master copy looks really great. I read Jacob's comment and I know on YouTube they have some vids on digital coloring.
Here is a quick view of one of Jason Chan's ---->

  4. Ach! And here is another tutorial that might help. Ms. Loish on DA had some things in her FAQ...

  5. That Is bad ass! You did a really good job on the textures in the dragon mane and background. If you get into applying textures (scanned gray scale canvases with paint, photos of tree bark, etc....) to your brushes sometimes you can get that look magically.

  6. Great job Candice! The more you tell us about the process you used the more we can comment specifically on it. How did you separate out your working layers? One for color, one for value? layers help a lot. Jeff's suggestion on textures works really well, you just have to figure out the right kind of blending mode and opacity setting and then mask out what you don't want to use. As you watch other tutorials try to find ones that tell you the tools they use instead of just making it look easy and making us all depressed.
