Here is my newest. I took full advantage of how convenient layers can be with this piece... I think I had 13 total :). I also inlayed some textures, and used the blur filter for some of the background. Another thing that I did in this one that I didn't do in the others is I used a wide variety of brushes. I also had a lot of reference pictures. I'm pretty happy how it turned out and can't wait to start the next one!
Great! I think the brushes and textures are really paying off. I don't think 13 layers is pushing it. That sounds to me more like a minimum. Ask Ryan how many layers he gets on some of his files. More than 200 can start to get messy.
